News from Brian
Brian Franke's August Newsletter
It is that time! As I mentioned in my newsletter last month I had a great photoshoot done and you will be choosing the album cover for my upcoming album "Six Blocks Down".
ALL WHO VOTE WILL HAVE THEIR NAME IN THE LINER NOTES OF THE ALBUM.
I hope that sweetens things a bit :)
I've made it as easy as I can for you to vote.
Brian Franke's July Newsletter
I've spent the day inside today, due to the brutal DC heat and humidity, learning some new cover songs. I'd like to share a couple things about learning other people's songs: it's very easy for me to do (most of the time) and I'm often disappointed by how the music is written. You can read more in my July Newsletter.
In this month's newsletter:
1. Getting some of my life back for music
2. Hear my album "Six Blocks Down" live acoustically SUNDAY JULY 11th at Wonderland Ballroom in DC
3. Be on the lookout to vote on the album cover of "Six Blocks Down"
Brian Franke's June Newsletter
It's official. I have long hair. Again. Yes, I had long hair back in high school and chopped it when I turned 18--so it's been a few years. I thought back to why I grew my hair out back in the day and it's the same
reason as it is now. Music made me do it. I also feel I subconciously
grew long hair as a way of saying, "I'm not going to be a part of what most
other people are doing." In high school I wasn't the popular kid
(and glad I wasn't) and now I don't feel like I'm part of the DC career oriented
culture that has disappointed me. You can read more in my June Newsletter.
In this month's newsletter:
1. What's the deal with the album?!?!?
2. Hitting the Jammin' Java stage June 7th!
3. Want to help me book new shows? Suggestions welcome!
Brian Franke's May Newsletter: Should I Start a Tell All DC Music Blog?
If you had not noticed on my Facbook and Twitter postings, I started a job with the Census last month. I needed to make some money and it was advertised as flexible and temporary. Only it hasn't been like that at all. I find I've experienced this with most of the jobs I've had. You can read more in my May Newsletter.
In this newsletter:
1. The album is fully recorded--now what?
2. I WON a huge MUSIC CONTEST!
3. I want to start a blog giving you tales from a DC musician, but will you read it?
Brian Wins the Cyber PR Blogging Contest!
As part of a music blogging contest for Ariel Hyatt's (of the top music PR firm Cyber PR) book, "Music Success in Nine Weeks", Brian entered nine video blogs between mid-December and mid-March sharing his experience, progress, successes, and feedback with the book. He just found out he was SELECTED BY CYBER PR AS THE WINNER and will be working on an online music PR campaign for 3 months.
Brian Franke April Newsletter: Help Choose My Debut Album's Title
Something I've become as part of being a performing musician is a germophobe. Well, yesterday the germs won and messed with my stomach forcing me to cancel my first gig due to illness. I don't like germs, it costs me money and it sucks my creative energy away--and sometimes my voice. So if years from now you see me wearing a mask outside, you'll know I truly became a germophobe to the extreme.
In this newsletter:
1.Highlights from last month including my debut at Iota Club and Cafe and St. Patty's Day.
2. My album release date. And how you can help in selecting the title.
3. Starting a blog on being a musician in DC (and all the struggles and non-struggles).
Brian Goes to Iota Club & Cafe and Fans do Confessionals
It may have been Oscar night in Hollywood, but there was nothing fake going on stage at Iota Club & Cafe. Brian had the privilege of playing there on Sunday March 7, 2010--his first time officially hitting one of the best venues in the DC area. He was joined by Ted Garber, Michael Yugo, and Jonny Grave for an awesome evening of local DC singer/songwriters.
Check out Brian playing "Our Sky", "Reconcile", "Thinking Aloud", and his new audience participation song "Restless Times" that has Ted Garber and Michael Yugo playing percussion on stage. Some fans also did some confessionals on camera too--check out the compilation!
March Newsletter: What Songs Should Brian Play on St. Patty's Day?
It's March already?!?! I am hoping by the end of this month we're all out of hibernation, done with blizzards that shut down DC, and enjoying weather in the 60s. Oh, and getting ready for baseball too--that is a sure sign warmer weather is around the corner! Plus my debut album is coming this spring that's been in the works for a while. There is a lot to look forward to this month including St Patty's Day in which I need your help in finding some songs you want to hear!
Behind the Scenes Video: In the Studio with Brian & Others
Want to see what's going on with my debut album? Here's a behind the scenes look at what's been going on in the studio. It features not only Brian, but Adam Lee of Rome in a Day who is drumming on the album and Dave Mallen who is producing and recording the album.
Brian's "Best of's" in 2009: Albums, Websites, Services, and Tweeters
Originally I was going to just do a list of albums I really liked in 2009, but then I thought "There is more than just listening to other people's music I did in 2009." So included in here are music websites, services to discover new music, and people to follow on Twitter. Enjoy and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! 2009 Reflections and 2010 Goals
The end of 2009 is here and I put three videos of me reflecting on what was and what I hope will be in 2010. Also, a personal thank you is in the third video to ALL OF YOU.
I'll also be posting my favorite 2009 albums for fun--it was a good year in music.
